The plumber has their wrench, the painter their brush, and in the kitchen the cook has their knife. There are a myriad of tools you can use to cook with in today's kitchen all potentially making your life easier, but master the use of your knife and you can eliminate the need for most of them and make cooking even more enjoyable.


 

Knife skills level 1

In this experience you will learn about your kitchen knives, from maintaining to handling.

You will learn how to use a chefs knife properly, understanding how to hold it and use all of its features to best effect. Then you will learn and practice different cutting techniques. Once you are comfortable handling your knife you will then put your new skills to the test by chopping, slicing and dicing some vegetables, which we'll use to make a light supper.

By the end you'll know how to prep, cook and store your vegetables more efficiently, making any future dinner easier and more enjoyable. Also you will know how and why to maintain your knives better, keeping you better and safer in the kitchen.


This is a shorter experience (roughly 2 hours) therefore is only £45 per person

Advanced Knife skills

A new speciality experience for anyone who wants to take their kitchen skills and knowledge a little further.

In this experience you will learn all about kitchen knives. Including choosing the right one for you to buy/use, the differences and why, such as types and metals, blades and shapes. You will get to see and use various knives from standard knives to Japanese knives, seeing the different uses of them.

You will learn to maintain your knives and look after them properly, practicing honing and cleaning. Then you will actually learn how to sharpen your knife/knives with a wet stone, to achieve a brand new edge to your blade, making it safer and better to use. This will allow you to make any of those old knives into better than brand new ones.

We will also look at different chopping boards and the effects they have on your knives and cooking as well as care and maintenance for them.

We will then cover the level 1 knife skills, buy learning how to use our newly sharpened knives safely and properly by preparing a meal.


This is a longer experience therefore better suited to a morning, though can be adapted for an evening
